The Vicarage archives and the library
 
Information about the Protestant parsonage and its members are collected in the vicarage archives and in their research library since 1925. So the archives and the library complement one another.
Since 1956 they have been located in the Luther House in Eisenach.

Collection areas and Collection goods

  • primary and secondary literature of and about important pastors, woman pastors and pastor’s children (manuscripts and printed works)
  • life evidences (like portraits among other things in different forms)
  • autographs
  • views of the parsonage
  • representations of the Protestant vicarage in literary works
  • collections of sermons
  • rectory supplies (exemplary supplies)
  • history (regional and local history)
  • since 1956 history of the Reformation / Martin Luther

The collection comprises more than 30.000 names in one name index.

 

Supplies of the library

The library comprises about 10.000 volumes (1993) and one collection of newspaper clippings.
The historic book supply consists of 2174 volumes ( = 21% of the total supply).
Since 1925 there is a current paper: „Deutsches Pfarrerblatt“.
 

 

Opportunities of usage

The library and the archives are accessible to all who are interested in science and for research use.
An on-site inspection of the supplies of the archives and the library is possible at the usual business hours. The supplies of the library can partly be borrowed since 1850.

Interested visitors are welcome by appointment only.
